No, V or possibly even R. Top speed was very similar to the Excel. Not 100% sure. Can't believe it's nearly 9 years since I sold my last one.

does anyone know where the speedo reads from?

just if standard was 215/50/15 then the fronts would be:
1.7% too fast (at 60mph actual speed = 59mph)

and rear would be:
1.7% too slow (at 60mph actual speed = 61mph)

was just a thought...

useful tool here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Oz.
Yes, but since the speedo is probably 5 or 6 mph optimistic at 60/70 mph, you are simply making it more accurate.

i am sure that capri 2.8i ran on 13x 7 inch pepperpots but i think the brooklands one had either 14 or 15 inch rs spoked wheels

Capri 2.8i's and 2.8i Specials were all on 205/60x13 Goodyear NCT's. The Brooklands Capris were shod with 205/50x15, (Pirelli P7's I think).

The 215/50x15 was a pretty rare tyre even back in the late 80's! Whenever I phone Micheldever for a quote and mention the size, they instantly ask if I have a Lotus Excel or an Audi Quattro!

Sorry to hijack the thread again, but I feel a point should be made.

Being in the trade (sorry but we all have to make a living) if you are putting non standard tyre sizes or speed rating tyres, on a car it is a material fact and you really should tell your insurer.

Whilst we all trust that sense will prevail in the event of a claim I would personally recommend that if you are to have a disagreement with your insurer it's best to do so before the claim.

Better safe than sorry and all that.

The difference between 6mm tread depth new and 2mm worn will have similar effects on speed variance as noted above.

Don't think it's worth bothering about when looking at a single size up or down.

If going for completely differnt wheel (18" for example) then gotta be careful. No guys I'm not trading the OZ wheels sorry.

Personally I think mixing 205 and 225 F/R will look a bit odd, as rears will look quite a bit thicker :....bit like a 70`s custom Cortina

(off the thread again  )
