Hi Eifion, I race a 1981 series 2 Eclat. I have some footage on youtube if you would like to see it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYhHgg18__0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6qlBeaH ... re=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_wNHm8u ... re=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QomgxZXv ... re=related I am currently carrying out a diff conversion following on from snapping my propshaft at Silverstone in August last year. Seems daft not whilst the diff is out. Where are you racing on 20th June?

Regards Dan

Hi Eifion, I built the rollcage myself with the help of a friend, it is built to exceed msa blue book spec and is a clone of an fia cage as far as possible that is fitted to a friends car. The suspension is my own custom design pickups with rose jointed dampers with 2 1/4 id springs to allow rate changes. I started sprinting and hillclimbing back in about 2002 and slowly converted the car from a road car to race car. I started racing from memory at the end of 2004, my first race sharing a drive at Oulton Park in an Aston Martin DBS Vantage 6 cylinder that belongs to a friend who competes in the AMOC championship, this was whilst we converted the Lotus to race spec, ie fit roll cage, extinguisher etc. For the first couple of years racing the car it was basically standard other than having a hc engine, this was until I hit the tyre wall at Snetterton and then killed the clutch at Donnington park, it was after this that the car started getting more seriously modified.

out of interest where did you connect the cage to the chassis? how did you fit it in? if i get more into race/sprinting i would definately need a cage!
What did the cage cost you to build?

Hi Oz, The cage picks up the rear suspension mounts, the chassis tunnel directly behind front seats, door hinge mounting points, front and back of cills, is fully triangulated with twin door bars. You do not need a roll cage for sprints and hillclimbs unless you start culling away at the bodyshell or lighten the doors eg drilling out the door beam etc, The cage cost me the price of the tube and many hours fabrication and £200 from memory having parts of the cage bent to my specification by rollcentre racing. in total I think it was less than £300.
