My aim for 2010 is to buy an Excel :D, and also try to make it through the rest of year financially intact as a result!

An interesting aspect of the Toyota LSD, on the 2.8i Supra, is that in outside appearance it is IDENTICAL to the normal diff. the only difference is a plastic sticker saying "use LSD oil only), this is special stuff (forget name) that I had to buy from a Rolls-Royce dealer 'cos the BMW dealers price was Horrendous.

Anyway if you are lucky enough to find one in a breakers yard, (as I was), all you need to do is remove this sticker before they price it.

SIMPLES !

Hi Jerry. Have you booked yet? Travel Destinations have already sold out of camping at Hunaudieres and Club Lotus are bringing forward their ticket booking date because of high demand. Hope to see you there! Chris

supercharged lexus V8...
not a fan, unless its a 1.6l V8 that will rev to 12,000 rpm and produce 500bhp+...
2x Hayabusa engines bolted together to make a V8 :)

Hmmmmm....500 bhp in 550kg that'll be nearly 1000 bhp/ton  ........a bit too tall to fit in a Clan though

(Back to the excel) Aims for 2010:
  • * Get the Excel taxed and tested mid-March
    * use it for a long trip to convince myself it's a keeper
    * not to rise to the bait and race moderns on the road
    * keep my licence

I was decidedly out-thrashed by a Honda S2000 (237bhp) driving over the Cotswolds the other day vs Ellie (180 bhp, yeah right). That's before power-to-weight ratios are considered.
Ozzy needs to fit that engine in his Excel and create a supercar.

Yep I reckon you're not alone wondering where all the horses have gone. When drove my Excel home for the first time 9 or 10 years ago (I've lost track of how long ago that was) I must admit I was a bit disappointed with the performance on the motorway as a dragster.

I'd *guess* the S2000 was dropping you on those long upward gradients in the Cotswolds and not for any other reason unless you don't feel confident about the handling for some reason...and surely that can't be the case...you're a long term Excel owner and will know your cars limits that's for sure.

Hill climbing is one of those tests that's always gonna expose a deficit in power to weight..and if you're carrying a passenger and a large lunch in your belly then you've got no chance!

Mine used to be reluctant to rev to 6 - 7k, and as you know you have to rev the bo**o*ks off it to make it go. Big improvement once I fixed the ignition. The next significant improvement came with loss of water pump and PAS which then makes you worry about the rev limiter failing as it's much more willing to rev.

And some days it seems to go better than other days whether it's due to air temperature tail winds or whatever. :?
Mine feels at it's best once it's well into a long high speed trip. The most satisfying drives include surprising a couple of lads in a TVR on the A30 between Bodmin and Exeter who tried hard but could not shake us off (even the wife enjoyed it) but the Excel kept maxing-out surprisingly easy on that day.

And that wasn't a one-off.....other satisfying long trips include sparring with a Scoobie WRX on the A1 north of Wetherby and another with a Boxster S (260 bhp) on the M6 between Shap and Carlisle.

It's these kind of trips that reminds me the Excel is no slouch when it decides to pick up it's skirts and fly!

And now you've told me about the S2000 I won't be able to resist yet another test when the opportunity arises...and this is why perhaps I should sell the Excel and improve my chances of keeping my licence (and my life).

I’m intrigued. What does 'Big improvement once I fixed the ignition' mean? Simple tuning, or something else?

bear in mind i have a non-se, so LC engine too, when left the factory was allegedly 160bhp, i doubt its more than 130bhp today!

so an upgrade to 237bhp S2000 + supercharger running low boost to 300bhp should make it nice and nippy :)

should also be able to nearly double my fuel economy!!! S2000 engine should achieve 35mpg on low rev driving in a lighter car than an S2000.... :o

i would also like to know what you did to "sort out" the ignition... my car will keep reving (doesnt seem to have a limiter) but i seem to be fastest on track when i change at about 5800rpm rather than take it to 7500rpm... just seems to loose power at the top end and take a while to get there...
