I'm afraid the devil is in the detail. HBOT is potentially toxic to the brain via increased oxidative stress. O2 therapy can increase free radical oxygen species leading to cell death (neuronal cell death in the case of brain)...and brain tissue is particularly susceptible as there is a lot of lipid in brain tissue...lipids are particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress in this context.

Everything stated is true. Though HBOT can be potentially toxic in the form of increased oxidative damage, it doesn't necessarily follow that it must be toxic. Orthodoxy states that; stroke damaged brain cells are more or less dead, they wish you good luck and send you home. The alternative practioners have discovered that this is not absolute and that much (though, true, not all) of the damaged tissue is merely in a state of dormancy: not dead, but not functioning either. It has been found that, by flooding these cells with oxygen, they "wake up", and return to normal functioning and the only way to raise blood levels of oxygen is to breath pure O2 under between 1.5-3 atmospheres of pressure. However, and to the point well made, there is a somewhat fine line between oxygenation and oxidation. This is why HBOT must be administered by experienced professionals. Part of the treatment necessarily requires the administering of specific anti-oxidants at the proper time to put out the potential "inflammitory fire" caused by unusually high concentrations of oxygen. With regards to the spats, following some idiot nearly smashing off my offside one in Tesco's carpark, I had a conversation with Chris Foulds who informed me that they were added to funnel cool air onto the diff to keep it cool under high speed conditions!
