Found a better price for the Odyssey PC925....
Odyssey PC925 £155 all inc VAT, Auto terminals and Delivery
....so I've ordered one 'cos the Excel is using the Clans' discarded 12 year old battery at the mo which still works (good old VARTA!) but it needs resuscitation every now and again.
The PC925 is only 128 mm (5 inch) high so I'd guess the Discarnect terminal would fit under the ABS cover too?

I know drycell /gel batteries are not cheap but they punch above their weight, and have extraordinary performance characteristics. Not quite as bad a price as their Lithium counterparts though...then we're talking £450 for a small one!
The one in the Clan (PC680) cost me £98 2 years ago and it's tiny (Motor bike sized). Used by many racers, sprinters, hillclimbers etc.
I used the PC680 on the Excel briefly when I "Sommender Singh Grooved" the Clans' head but the larger PC925 will have more capacity to deal with the Excels greater electrical loads say when the engine is not running, so it's a bit more expensive.

'King hell for a 'king battery sprung to mind..........although i am a Yorkshire man
if i paid £450 for the battery i think i would expect it to do more than the voltage thing........

Jerry if you race without an alternator (and many do) you'd be happy to pay the 450 Quid and have a reliable light weight solution to keeping the sparks flying for 40 mins or so!

The equivalent to the Odyssey PC925 is the Odyssey Extreme 35 (about £150 + VAT) on Dans web site.
Outside of racing, if your classic is a "keeper" then these batteries make sense. They will outlast at least 2 lead acid batteries over time and in my experience at least 3 lead acid batteries fitted to a heavy draining Excel! And with ordinary batteries at £50 - £70 a shot for a decent one, £150 doesn't sound too bad when you consider the superior performance features of dry cell batteries like:

good points...................My Varta was over £110 (luckily trade card with Halfrauds) so i might look at one for next winter, as that really knacks my batteries with the car stood in a cold damp garrage..........
