It looks a bit home brewed to me, if it was factory it's spelled wrong for a start; Excel SE or Excel S.E., but not Excel.SE. Could be either covering up leather damage or just some useless tat added added by an over enthusiastic owner

Well I removed the panel this afternoon and took off the plaque to see if it bears any part numbers. It doesn't! But it would seem to have been properly made with the fixing bolts being part of it's back plate. Agree with you Simpatico about an overenthusiastic previous owner putting it on and yes the spelling is odd but "tat" no! I like it! Could have been better if it had the car's chassis number on it declaring "Excel SE. #2991"

Well that's just outragous!! I suppose that we do see some Lotus cars with fairly "wild" paint jobs but I would never be tempted down that route! I'll be leaving my Excel exactly the way it is i.e. fit for purpose!
