I was out and about in Kent in my Elite today and got talking to the owner of Green Excel F227XNG from the under bonnet plate: VIN 089912JHD12625 ENG NO. DY912880424841 He does occasionally look up this site but is not registered. Is the car on the register? He's owned it 25 years, said it was a prototype, but wasn't sure of what? It was badged as an s.a

Green Excel F227XNG
It's on the register. Thanks for the VIN numbers Andy. You were lucky to spot it in the wild. Based on MOT data, it's regularly taxed and MOTed, but has only done 150 miles in the last 6 years !
I had it as an SA, but also a note it featured in some publicity brochures of the time. There's a photo of it outside some posh gaff hanging in the Bird In Hand.
More likely a publicity car than a prototype car.
Tony
PS: We are homing in on having 1000 cars identified - Over 1 in 5 of the RHD production across Elite, Eclat and Excel.

This has just popped up for sale on Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/lotusel ... 198471118/
As a track-prepared car with no number plate - and it looks like it's not been used for a long while - I guess it may not have popped up before. Fortunately the seller has been good enough to include a photo of the ID plate, so we have the VIN.
