Knackered Gauges ?

Post by Doc Si »

I don't understand the gauges or are they Knackered?
Voltmeter reads abou8 - 9 volts when the ignition is on & doesn't move when the engine runs. Plenty of volts heading for the battery though.
Oil pressure gauge read 4 1/2 bar whenever the engine is running hot cold or whatever!
Temp gauge gets up to about 70-75 no matter what, never goes higher., the fans are not running all the time.
& Finally the ice detector is permanently lit ( we have no ice in East Anglia at the moment.
Anyone got any ideas about all this lot or are the gauges just knackered? :?:

the oil one should be moving about so that one looks like either the gauge or some other component has failed, the temp one should also move about, i had a problem with mine a while ago traced back to a loose connection http://www.lotusexcel.net/phpbb/viewtop ... ight=#6320

the ice detector looks like its failed if its always on and finally the volt meter one i'm not so sure mine doesnt move much either, i would get he temp and oil pressure ones fixed as these are important gauges

In my copy of the workshop notes the voltmeter, oil, temp and tacho are all fed from the same fuse, number 13. There isn't an ice sensor, so the diagram I'm looking at is older than your car and the fuse number may be different. However, your problem instruments have two things in common, the supply of power to them, and the earth, so I'd start by checking those two things.
