I just saw that our esteemed designer is giving a talk with the same title as his book - 'A Life in Car Design.'
If I can, I'll go along. It's a Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. Details (together with other talks) at http://www.ferraritestarossa.net/clublotus/
Anybody else?
Cheers, Richard

Yes, I'm looking at that one too. I've seen Oliver twice at the Avon branch meetings, he's an engaging and amusing speaker, and the Bull Inn does some excellent beer (just the one, of course!).
Alan M, do you fancy it?

Look forward to seeing you both there assuming I can make it on the day! We might have an Eclat owner coming along as well.
Cheers, Richard

Re: Oliver Winterbottom talk at Club Lotus Avon meet 5th Mar
Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. It was good to see Bryan and Alan - who both did sterling service on the AV front - particularly Bryan who seemed to know telepathically which slide to put up when Oliver said 'next!'
Oliver gave a very interesting talk centred around Lotus 'DNA' referring to Chapman's approach to problems - including the correct use of the word 'simplicate.' It reflected the genius of the man in approaching decisions with a genuinely open mind and taking issues back to first principles. We heard some great anecdotes as well. It was also good to realise through Oliver's examples what advanced cars Elites and Eclats were in their day.
There were in fact at least four 'wedge' owners there - the three of us and Peter Lucas, ex-Lotus design engineer, who will be giving a talk at Club Avon soon - he has an Elite. Judging by the reactions to the talk, there does seem to be a lot of recognition of and respect for the 'wedges' these days.
The evening was also notable (for me at least) for piloting my first low-alcohol pint. Half of IPA plus a bottle of Heineken zero. Not a bad shandy when you're driving.
Cheers, Richard

I wish I could claim telepathic powers but instead I was watching Ollie's printed notes like a hawk, trying to match up the small printed picture on each of his sheets with something which resembled it on the computer! Glad I'd recently been to Specsavers (or local equivalent!)richardw wrote:It was good to see Bryan and Alan - who both did sterling service on the AV front - particularly Bryan who seemed to know telepathically which slide to put up when Oliver said 'next!'
