Alternative door handles and latches

Post by amarshall »

I *think* I have a source of brand new door latches which will fit the beams without modification - although the actuating levers are slightly different.

What sort of interest is there in using them as either

a) replacements
b) part of a kit to replace the whole door lock, latch, handle system with something less prone to breakage?

They're modified Dolomite rear latches aren't they?
Kind regards

John

Not entirely. Very similar, but they weren't modified - just sourced from another range.

Confused - presumably this is Excel, not Elite/Eclat? If Excel, I thought Toyota was responsible, although do you mean the mechanism rather than the handle?

Will the fixings/bobbins on the new handles be more robust that the originals?

He's talking about mechanism and handle I believe Richard-to replace the Excel stuff. Given my Allegro experience, I even looked into viability of retrofitting Allegro handles to ours (Like the Elite/Eclat) but they're too deep.
Kind regards

I'm looking at a potential complete new system for Excels from exterior handle to latch. The handles are too fragile and impossible to replace, and the latch variant used is also proving impossible to find and prone to breaking internally. Alternative handles are tricky to find because they need to pull up on the latch levers and most modern options push down.

I think the alternate latches will probably also fit Elite and Eclat, but your handles are plentiful and more robust as far as I know.

Marina bits more robust than Toyota bits? That's been kept quiet in the outside world.
What car is that?
