The Lotus Grand Tourers

I am trying to work out how to refit the sun visors to the trim panel they are fitted to. I've worked out how they fit but can't see how it's done!

You have to do it with the trim panel removed from the car. The two rods will rotate so they are free, you then just push back into the tube enough to slot into place and then put the two nuts on behind the trim. Hope that makes some sense !

Mine weren't actually rivitted in place. The D profile stops each rod from rotating and IIRC, the step in the rod stopped it pulling through the fibre glass roof former.
It's a very simple hinge, and to be honest, not very robust.

I think I may have a look at trying some alternatives, would be nice to be able to swing the visor to the side!

I've found an old jag X308 sunvisor, It's a bit too wide compared to the Lotus one, but I will have a look and see if it can fit in the recess. I am sure something can be found to replace what i guess is the 1960 ford item!

My sun visors are in a pretty sorry state, and I also managed to snap the end off one of the hinge pins while removing them from the front header rail

Following on from this thread, I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation for an alternative that fits reasonably easily ?

I have BMW E36 fitted, they fit the aperture and swing.

Unfortunately I can’t get on Facebook, and I see there are quite a few E36 sun visor variants.
Any chance you could post some pictures on here and/or advise specifically which ones you used ?
Also, visors that swing mostly look like they have a chunky plastic hinge that would require cutting a chunk out of the windscreen header rail which is obviously structural . Did you have to cut into he header rail to fit the ones you used ?

They were the non cabrio ones.

I did have to drill into the header rail but only about a 10mm hole from memory.

These are the ones, the hole in the windscreen surround was to fit the bit shown in the first pic that allows it to rotate.

Managed to get a pair from my friendly local breakers for £10 each .
Now just need to decide whether I’m happy to cut holes in the header rail .......
I also got a replacement hinge pin for my originals from Lotusbits, so I have a choice
I tried to buy a pair of ready trimmed sun visors from Lotusbits, but unfortunately he wouldn’t separate them from a trim kit.
The BM ones are grey, so whichever option I choose sun visor retrimming will be required.
