The HC Excel SE I purchased has a 123 ignition installed. I know absolutely nothing about them. The previous owner said that it was set up with recommended settings from this forum.
It also looks like it still has the black ignition box on thr right fender. I am in the process of cleaning up the engine bay, and was wondering if I needed the black box.
Any and all help would be much appreciated, as there is not much support on this side of the pond.

You shouldn’t need the AB14 unit if that is the black box
Also 123 should have a rev limiter - so won’t need the other black box either.
There are several versions of the 123. Can you read out the maps yours has?
Hopefully the recommended settings weren’t those from pjr. I now own that car and the mechanical advance map was good, the vac advance not so.

Mine is the Bluetooth version, so I just connect it to the app on my phone.
I think other models might be usb - have a look at their website, or contact them - normally very helpful.

So - if the 2 black boxes are not used, where to the wires go? I am trying to unclutter the engine compartment as much as I can. You are speaking of the amplifier, and the little black relay looking item which is just to the rear of the amplifier, correct?

Hi Alan. Mine is the USB version according to Ron Tettero at Albertronic.
So if I understand correctly, I can remove the amplifier and disconnect the wires - correct?

Yes, the amplifier (AB14) connects to the pickup in the distributor. This isn’t used for the 123.
Just connect the 123 as per their instructions.
