Interior and door lights

So when I got my Excel I noticed that both door edge lights were not working and the interior lights were both in the off position. After removing the door edge lights I found both were disconnected and after reconnecting they both work fine the problem is neither of them switch off when the doors are closed and also the interior lights both stays on with the doors closed. Would I be right in thinking a faulty courtesy delay relay could make this happen?

Sounds like the relay. Could be a standard one in by mistake.

Otherwise check the door switches as well

Removed the relay which says courtesy delay on it and the lights still remain on so now I’m totally confused.

That then points to a solid earth path - disconnect each door switch in turn if you can

Was it the middle one, of the bank of 5?

Yes definitely the right relay. How does you get to the passenger side coutesy light switch? I can’t see any easy way other than removing the dash.

If you remove the 2 left side screws behind the kick panel is there any flex with the glovebox section to assist you?

It can be done without removing anything. Double jointed wrists plus Lotus position and a lot of patience.
The back comes out of the glove box with only 4 screws. Not sure if it will help, but just might.

Ok so removed the kick panel and managed to get my hand to the back of the switch on the passenger side and removed one of the wires and hey presto the lights now work properly with just the drivers side switch. So the courtesy switch on the passenger side is faulty, I’ll pull it apart and see if I can fix it if not a new one will sort things. Thanks for your help.
