Just putting the rad back in after engine and steering overhaul, and noticed the front spoiler looked odd. It appears a previous owner has cut off some damaged bits, so the vertical lip with the three cut outs has completely gone! Probably kerb or speed bump damage.
The 86 model year brochure shows only 5 inches clearance from sill to ground, the spoiler must reduce this to more like 3 inches. SJ Sportscars do a new part, apparently GRP lip spoilers only ran from 1986 to 1988, then switched to a rubber lip. I think I can guess why!
I've had the car for 12 years and only just noticed this damage. Not sure whether I should leave as is, mend what I've got with GRP, buy a new one from SJS, or modify by adding a rubber lip. I'd like to avoid spending time and money on this only to bust it on the first speed bump I meet!
Any other 86 to 88 SE owners had similar issues?
Cheers
John

Re: Excel SE front spoiler
I have an 89 rubber spoiler fitted when I got it . Grounds so often I wouldn't have one by choice.
Nothing is fool proof. Fools are clever!
Re: Excel SE front spoiler
Thanks for the feedback, given that the standard Excel of the same model years didn't even have this spoiler I'm tempted to tidy up the old one up with with some stonechip and put it back on.
