Seat Retrim

Post by dpr59 »

Found a local place that will re-leather my drivers seat.

Thanks to a post on a classiccar forum.

It's even in Hartlepool, about 2.5 miles from the house  :D

Now, whats the best route to getting the seat out of the car?

The best route is to onbolt the whole frame from under the car. If you are very lucky(as I was on one seat) the bolts are welded into the frame. This means that all you do is reach under the car with socket ext and rachet, and undo. If they are ordinary bolts, there's a bit of a problem, because most sockets and spanners won't get round the bolt head. A second person is invariably needed to hold the bolt into the runner to stop it turning, or get a screw driver and push it in to the side of the bolt to stop it turning.

Once off, push adjuster to unbolt chair from runners.

If you can, get the bolts welded, before they go back, or (as I did), replace with hex headed allen bolts.

Hi Jerry,

The Re-Upholstery Centre
237, York Rd, Hartlepool, Cleveland TS26 9AD
Tel: 01429 420200

A chap in Hartlepool had the seats for his Mini done for £200 each in new leather.

Haven't got a price on mine yet.

I'd not thought of a general re-upholsterers, but h=they are just seats afterall.

Must be a place near you, try www.yell.com
