Bonnet Catch

Still having some problems with my near side bonnet catch. Hit a bump and up pops the bonnet (and where I live there are more holes than road - don't get me started!!  ), although the offside holds things steady until I can stop and push the lid down. I've tried pushing the bonnet release handle forward but nothing, so any other suggestions? All help gratefully appreciated - Graham :?

Grease the catch and, before you put the bonnet down, push the latch back into the "closed" position by hand (guess how I know - go on, guess  )

Graham, are you sure that the catch has fully engaged on the nearside? Also, the jaws can get stiff and stay open, even if the lug is pressed down inside. Can you lever up that corner of the bonnet using your fingers or does it release if you thump it lightly with the palm of your hand? If so, the catch may need lubricating / freeing off or the cable may need adjustment (slackening) on that side. Hope this helps, Chris

I had this exact problem a while ago. In my case it turned out to be the
inner cable corroding and sticking. Initially it prevented the catch from
closing properly but then progressed to preventing the catch from
opening thus preventing me from opening the bonnet! In the end I had
to cut the cable behind the bulkhead on the nearside and pull the inner
cable witb pliers.

Ditto for driver. The cable was siezed.
