Headlining : UPDATE NOW WITH LINK TO PICTURES

Post by amarshall »

Just got back from Hethel (and what a feckin' miserable drive back it was - A14, A47, A17, A1 - roadworks and traffic jams everywhere) - but I'm still smiling.

Mel Broome's team in ASO trim at the factory (aka Adrian [wedge elite in bits] and Sharon) have done a fantastic job on the new headlining - even down to re-covering the sun visors with leather & fabric so that the vanity mirror is still there and it looks better than it did when new (I think).

Price ? Well - I had quotes ranging from £1400+VAT to £250+VAT from various people between Huddersfield and Newcastle. The factory treatment took 2 days to complete and was just over £550 all in.

It was also a good excuse to have a chat with someone else about some help with the Beaujolais run sponsorship target. All being well, I should have some surprises for the birthday party on 23rd Sept. and the Stoneleigh parts fair on Nov. 4th.

Tomorrow - Leffe tonight :D

Forgot to mention that they also replaced the aerial ground plane (aka the bit of foil on the roof) and checked all the seatbelt and seat mounts ('cos they took them out to do the job properly).

Good to hear the trip was worth it. I'd love to know how that quote of £1400 you mentioned was arrived at. What were they going to use - nappa leather ?

I look forward to seeing the result - will you be at NELOC on Monday ?

Are you able to pm or email the contact telephone number at the factory you arranged this through?

Once mine is on the road again new headlining is a priority. Locally I've been quoted £475+VAT from a place with a very good reputation. They said it would take 4-5 days though.

Mel Broome in ASO Trim. mbroome@lotuscars.co.uk or phone him on +44 (0)1953 608153. Please mention my name - I promised him that I'd let people know about the service.

Adrian, the trimmer, has been with Lotus for 25 years so knows his way around the 80s cars very well...

Looks superb! Especially the visors. My head lining rests on my head - helps to keep the bad patch polished. Would love to get it sorted but I,m skint after the roling road tune up  Got a feeling i need to save my pennies for clutch and exhaust which i'm sure are just on the horizon.

Very nice indeed. The stitching looks better than new. I don't suppose you'll be letting any young relatives climb in it with their sweets!
