Car Cover

Can anyone recommend a good breathable outdoor cover suitable for the Excel?

My car lives outside, and although (touch a large piece of wood... ) I seem to have cured my water leaks, all this rain can't be good for the old girl - and it's not even Autumn yet! A quality cover would seem to be a good investment...

I use a Auto storm breathable cover. Being breathable it does let a little moisture in but not much. Having a red car, it's good to keep the the sun off - stop it turning pink. Comes with 3 straps and I had the optional cord with a lock to stop the cover being pinched!

There used to be some good fitted ones in the club Lotus mag. Not seen them in recent issues but i'm sure club Lotus could put you in touch,

Cheers,

Phil

Cover in action - When is the rain going to stop!

I think if I was buying one again I would go for the type in the Club Lotus mag.

Mines Ok, but it obviously get's dirty outside and when we get heavy rain it wash's the dirt through the breathable material onto the car

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks for the info Phil, I too have the Calypso Pink, erm, Red problem!

I had a look at the Auto Pyjama website, and a breathable cover like that seems ideal. I'm not too worried about keeping every drop of water off the car, but was more concerned that a non-breathable cover would hold any moisture against the car once the rain has stopped. Do you find that your car "dries out" under the cover after a while?

You can come back from a wet run out and cover the car wet. It will still dry out completely as soon as the weather allows,

Took the cover off tonight after the weekend of rain and the car is covered in dirt washed through the porus material. As I said before - I think I would take a look at the ones that were in the Club Lotus mag,

Cheers,

Phil

It seems to me, that this is the only thread about outdoor covers... Could it be that we have such a few experiences?

Does anybody have choosen the ones from the tlf? Or which covers have choosen beside the auto storm? Are there any other tailored variants out there?

I need help cause my garage space is already limited by now

My autostorm got ripped recently so I have replaced it with a Moltex 5 cover out of Club Lotus mag. It is much better than the Auto storm. Keeps the car completly dry but is still breathable. Has four layers to keep the sun off - very pleased with it.

I eventually bought the Club Lotus Moltex cover too. It's been quite durable and keeps most of the rain off the car. However, I would be careful about putting it on a really wet car - I did once and found afterwards that I had milky blotches in the lacquer where the cover had held the water against it. They did dry out eventually but it was quite unsightly. I suppose this could happen with any cover and depends more on the state of the car's paintwork.

I have the covers by Classic Additions on the Merc and found them to be good. Don,t forget to ask for the additional patches which are free to put in the cover at the wing mirror positions asbwithoutbthem it tends eventually to wear the fabric away. They also give a good discount second time around
