Hi, anyone know the difference between these paint codes?
A33 Ice Blue
A39 Ice Blue
A44 Glacier Blue
and is A52 Mediterrean Blue a typo in the service notes?

IIRC, my Esprit was A33 and was re-sprayed incorrectly in A39, the former is more sea blue than the latter (read that as having some green in it).

A39 replaced A33, I think A33 is ICI and I believe A39 was when Lotus switched to Dupont. There is a colour difference because some (minor) repair work on mine was done in A39 and it was a mile out and had to be redone.
A39 appears to be the default if you try and obtain Lotus Ice Blue and is what appears in all the paint mixing directories.
I believe Glacier Blue is much darker If you compare Robert Verheys avatar with mine his looks much darker.

Thanks guys. I have been looking for "the perfect colour" for my (hopefully) new excel (will, again hopefully,be picking up next week). I intend to respray or wrap it (its currently red with faded "panels") in just that lovely early (narrow bodied) ice blue but couldn't determine the colour from photos between ice blue and glacier blue. After getting the service notes I noticed the two lotus codes for Ice blue and wondered the difference.
But then again its hard to tell from photos.
I want that kind of nice silvery light sky blue colour......

It needs a respray, but will give you an idea.

Hi I'm using this thread to stay on paint topic. My 1986 car is A42 British Racing Green but when I went for a touch up brush the colour is lighter so I am guessing the colour I got was the A63 BRG version. Is this to do with the change to water based colours in 1992 and can I still get a proper colour match touch up?

Regarding the ,BRG, you may find that it was slightly tweaked over the years, and that the code relates to date as well. Touch up sticks, pot luck! ,they are normally mixed ,no1 shade, standard. You may require for eg, no 4,shade+L+BL. (Bluer and lighter than standard ) still brg. - Colour change, went through same thought myself, decided to stay original in the end. Jaguar silver blue is nice, done a few e types in it. A reputable established refinisher, will give you the option to select different colours to help you get an idea of colour mixing. They will have there own mixing machine, and carry up to 200 toners, primary, pearls, metalic, micra, zaralic. There's no reason you can't formulate you own colour, I've always done this and still do. When you find a colour, before you give the ok,..Ask for some spray out samples! !! (Normally sprayed on to a metal card ) Take them away, put them against you car, tape to door edge, wing, wheels, put in different light brightness etc, when happy go for it. THE ONE THING,I strongly recommend. Make sure they can take on a fiberglass substrate, and give warranty.

And also don't forget that even if you keep the car indoors and regularly polish, it will still fade over time.
funny tho, I bought some touch up paint for my Monaco white using paint code on car but its very milky compared to the car.
