NEC Classic Car Show 13th-15th November

Post by amarshall »

Ummmm, chaps (and chapesses), I seem to have managed to get us a small stand at the 2009 show next to Club Lotus Staffs and the Esprit Forum. The only cost associated is for PL insurance, and we can stand the cost easily since we have about £400 in the kitty now.

Ermmmm - HELP! what do we do now ? Do we go ? If so, who's going to be available to man the stand, sell merchandise, display cars ?

The theme of the show is "50 years of the motorway" or "The Open Road".

All ideas welcome.

Well done for securing space, I know it's normally over subscribed.

I guess that means I really need to attend this year to see both stands (at least I wouldn't have to move to do that), and maybe help on one of them if necessary.

so whats the discount and what happens in regards to getting the tickets. Do we order them and pay through here? We (wife and kids) will (hopefully) be arriving in my excel, but she certainly isn't (or wont be by then even) in a show worthy state. Will only be able to come for fri or sat.

I'll look at hotels etc. in the next few days John. Meanwhile - back to the plotting and planning

The situation so far :

Cars : Mike T. has agreed to bring the first Excel (whatever state it's in)
Martin H. has has offered either of his (SA I think please - something a little unusual)
Danny and Mark de S have both offered their race cars (Danny got in first and is interesting because of how it shows how an Eclat can still be transformed into an Excel ;) )

Track Torque have said that I can strip their workshop and they'll help with logistics from the north-east and have also offered us their old marquee which is no longer needed since their race transporter now has a giant awning.

Stand space is 7m by 8m - I think we probably need one more car and some display material. I'm holding mine in reserve as an example of a "hack" Excel, but would rather have a less "lived in" example if someone can help.

I notice that it is possible to get some pop-up banners from ebay for around £25-£30 and that there's a lot of 2nd hand perpex display stuff available there too. Does anyone have any objections to me spending about half our current bank balance on stuff like that for set dressing (perspex cabinet is for books, brochures etc) ? After the NEC show we could then deposit the banners in various strategic geographic locations for use at shows throughout the year.

I'm also going to stock up on merchandise - particularly polos, fleeces, caps and smaller items.

Volunteers to man the stand during the show would be good too - and remember, every ticket stub given to use during the show turns into cash for club coffers too!
