Leather cleaner

Post by snafu »

I was very disappointed with the leather interior of my 89 SE and the front seats will have to be redone in leather in the new year.

The rear seats were discustingly dirty and I tried some soapy water to no avail. The fellow who is going to do the retrim of the front seats went to his car and brought out a Holts Leather Foam Cleaner and he tried just a small patch. Well eventually I was able to purchase a couple of tins and I was exceedingly impressed by this product. The first time I went over the rear seats quite a bit of the grime came away and not being satisfied, I went over them again. What a difference the second time going over the seats made. First Holts product I have been impressed with.

I agree with MKELITE Woolies products are very good. Their leather cleaner works well on ingrained dirt if you "flood" a piece of 0000 grade wire wool to rub down the leather to apply the cleaner, finishing it off with a clean cloth to get rid of the dirt and excess fluid. It provides a good key especially if you are following it up with the leather colourant also available from them. I had a horrible time with the seats on my SE. They had a look of having been painted! I'm steadily working my way through the whole interior. It does impart a nice "new" smell in the process and re-vitalizes the leather.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately here in darkest Africa I don't think that we get these products, we just have to use what is available.

I did find that even with the Holts product, the colour was coming off the leather, but it did leave the end product rather clean.

I am wondering about the quality of leather that Lotus used as both of my Esprits have been reupholstered and the front seats of my Excel need redoing. Old Mercedes, of which there are plenty stiill on the roads over here, the leather in 25 year old cars still looks pristine.

Well yes! Woolies would ship anywhere in the world! It just costs a little more in shipping! Check out the website. They do however need a sample of the leather so that they can colour match. Details are on their website.

I've just sent my full interior to on site solutions, he's stripped all the dirt of it and has resprayed it in the orginal colour, looks brilliant. Very reasonable price if any body wants theirs done let me know.
