Could you please tell me, what this rusty item is about?
Its seen from the back with the view to the front, behind the driveshafts direct on the body.
What function has it? Which partsnumber does it have?

It's the anchor for the rear seat belts. Good idea putting mild steel there isn't it? If it's failed (and it looks as though yours has a crack in it) you can get a stainless one from Lotusbits.

That would be a MOT failure over here.

Yes. Brilliant
Thanks for the advises.
I would suppose many have these problems if they were driven in the winter?
Haven´t thought that this items could be such trouble for MOT.
Good you have noticed it for me.

The MOT man noticed mine unfortunately but it wasn't a major issue because stainless steel ones are available for about £20 per side from SJSportscars Crediton Devon England

I fitted the stainless ones from Mike Taylor. Most difficult bit was cutting through the old rusted bolts.Got my new bolts from here.

They have to be a certain strength see

Also use plenty of sealer around the bolt holes or water will find its way in.

Chatting to Fitz in the pub last night (Norfolk meet) I commented how in hind sight I now know my first Excel should have failed its MOT test on those, but the tester didn't realise what they were and I hadn't noticed how bad they were. For my current Excel it was SS ones from Mike, and a power reciprocating saw is a great thing to have for the job.
