Seat replacement

Post by MrCoolA »

I have the chance for a pair of seats from an RX8 full black leather which i would get trimmed with some blue to match the existing and full electrics.............has any one else looked at these or tried them?? if so any issues??

I've often looked at RX8 seats on e bay and wondered if they would go in the Excel too Jerry. Would it not be easier and cheaper to get the rear seat trimmed to match the RX8 seats? Also do RX8 seats tip forward to allow access to the back seats? I know that some MX5 seats do.

Good point about the tip forward, never thought about that, but as they are 4 door cars i better check.............the idea was just to get the bolsters or the center panel re covered rather than the whole seat.............the ones i have been offered are all electric as well so will have to get Mark to fit themas he is a better car electrification than i am.........but one thing at a time, need to get the EFI sorted first...........

My oldest son had an RX8 a few years ago and I seem to recall the seat backs do tip forward, but someone may no better.

I think they must do, those rear "doors" are surely insufficient for access alone.

seems that the driver doesn't tip forward but the passenger does........win - win as far as i am concerned :D :D

well paid for the seats after some careful measurement and they appear to be almost identical in size and shape as the RaceLand buckets i have in at the moment, so well happy, the drivers seat is all electric so will fit a live & earth and hey presto should work.

all i have to do then is decide which seats either front or back i get retrimmed, as my car has blue leather and seats are black

Jerry Hi
Just an observation, but as a new Lotus owner or an owner with a lot of bits, is it safe or wise to connect anything that's not original electric wise into a Lotus loom, as these cars are known to be tempermental !!! and they appear to have a mind of their own, the car will just retaliate and stop in the middle of the road !!!!!!
regards
Robert

Seem to remember the only rear door is on the drivers side. Think thete was a bit of stuff in the press when it was launched as the opening rear door went into traffic and not to the pavement - Mazda not being bothered to change door sides for the uk market.

Having just googled rx8, seems there are rear doors both sides. Not sure which car I was thinking about.

they are flying machines, especially the 231 and great revving machines when the engines are running and handle very like the MX5 as the chassis is pretty much the same, just slightly longer............they run on an oil /fuel mix from the sump to keep the rotors from wearing.......

The RX8 seat plan sounds promising Jerry. I'd be tempted to paint the silver headrest inserts satin black - but then again maybe I'm just being boring.
