Fog lights without low beams ?
What must be done to get the fog lights on without having low beams popped up?
I would guess that some one has tried it before, but I haven't found something.
Thanks in advance

Re: Fog lights without low beams ?
The fog lights will be wired in such a way as to only come on with at least the side/ parking/ marker lamps illuminated. When those come on, the pods pop up.
Ignoring the option to have front fogs on but no other lights you'd be left with, making it so that you can illuminate fogs and side & rear lamps by bypassing the light switch that controls the pods also or putting in a wiring mod so that the pods do not come up with the side lights if fog lights are on and headlights are off.

Re: Fog lights without low beams ?
On my car, a 1989 RHD from UK, daylight (reduced low beam) was activated when I turned on sidelights but I wanted to drive with fog-lights and sidelight during day time driving.
I thought this would be hard to fix but I looked in the left hand foot well where the daylight relay is supposed to be and I found a separate fuse by the relays so on chance I just pulled the fuse and hey presto, the british daylight function was gone.
Now when I start the car I push the foglight button and turn on the sidelights and and drive the car with the pods down and fog-lights and sidelights on.
When it gets dark I just turn on low beam and the pods go up and I have low beam on, I also have to turn off the fog-lights as it not legal in Sweden to drive with both of them on at the same time.

That's the way it SHOULD be in this country too but our motoring laws have lost their way...PeterH wrote:..............................

Hi Peter,
That is just the way I wanted it to be. EXCELent!
And it serves also your signature too
Simplicate, then add lightness
One fuse less, which can operate not proper and a (very) little weight saving in the front
Thanks

Driving with fog lights on is regulated and they should only be used in conditions of poor visibility, fog or falling snow. You risk getting a ticket using them otherwise.

This also applies to rear fog lights

Re: Fog lights without low beams ?
About the rear we don´t have to discuss. The rear lights could blind the following.
The fronts are harmless. They will be only switched on in the forrest by daylight. It is not my aim to bother someone... just to get seen without the pods beamed up.

In Sweden you are allowed to use front fog-lights together with side-lights when its day light but as soon as its starting to get dark low-beam are required.

Re: Fog lights without low beams ?
Can anyone tell me where I can get replacement front fog lamp...the glass is bust on one of mine. What car are they sourced from?
Here in darkest East Anglia it seems that the rule; is it doesn't matter what lights you use on your car just as long as they are not symmetrical & one of them dazzles the on coming traffic. I've never seen so many one eyed vehicles, do the police ever enforce the lighting rules?

Re: Fog lights without low beams ?
Both my Fog Lights were smashed so I bought some second hand Scirroco ones from a personal advert on the Scirroco owners web site. However I should have checked mine first because the last owner had fitted Hella Comet 450's in place of the originals. As it was a bumper off job to change the brackets it was easier to sell the Scirroco lights and buy a brand new pair of Hella Comet's. I was fortunate enough to find an unused pair on Ebay for £45 that someone had purchased but never fitted. They look very similar to the originals and came with protective covers which hopefully means I won't be replacing them too soon.

I cant give you an exact description of it as I dont remember exactly........sorry...don.hasi wrote:@PeterH: which fuse is it exactly concerning this layout http://www.lotusexcel.net/phpbb/viewtop ... lit=layout
As I remember it I found a relay up under the dashbord on the passenger side (my car is RHD), this relay had something with the day-light function and next to it was a single fuse hanging in its cables and this fuse was the one that I removed to be able to have the side-lights on without the light pods popping up.

Re: Fog lights without low beams ?
I have a RHD too
So a relais under the dash (glove box?) and not behind the left cover on the left legroom?
