Removing silicone from bodywork - rear spats

Hi. I'm cleaning the rear wheel arch area up before refitting the rear spats that a PO removed (I realise there's a debate as to whether the spats look good or not, I like them and they will also help prevent stone chips to the rear valance). There is silicone sealant where the joint between spats and body was sealed (I'm assuming by PO rather than factory).

Does anyone have experience of using the solutions to dissolve the silicone, below is the type sold by screwfix.

I want to know before I use it whether it will also dissolve the car ! :?:

Any other tips would be gratefully received, as well as the best way to re-fix the spats, can I use stainless old fashioned nuts and bolts ? Is the rear of the wheel arch readily accessible ?

Thanks

My gold one has silicone on the spat to body joints so it may be factory.

They are attached with snap-head rivets from the wheel arch area. Large washers act as spacers between the spat and the wheel arch and I think (IIRC) also between the head of the rivet and the spat's surface also.
