When I bought my excel I was initially disappointed with the engine power and found it was not much different to my 2.0 litre ford focus which has 130 bhp. Have seen other people say they were not getting the full 180 bhp as well.
Just had clutch changed and other work done and had the valve clearances re-set and the carburettors balanced and tuned - all done by a lotus specialist.
Massive difference in engine power - definitely getting full power now!

It's surprising how the gradual changes can impact the power so greatly. I suspect it also runs with better emissions and more smoothly now.

Yes - just had it MOT'd - emmisions low
and Yes struggling with heavy right foot syndrome!
Have not had car long and just starting to realise how much more fuel it uses if you drive if fast!
Oh well - didn't buy it for its fuel economy!
