Anyone notice the £51/2 grand Elite sold on eBay last week? Edam yellow with black leather interior. I liked it but was suprised by how much it made- wonder who bought it?

It was the reg No PPW 305R that dunnit - cunningly he included pics of the Bond S1 Esprit PPW 306R to get juices running...

I'd guess the car itself might of gone for half of that but for the reg.

£500 car

£5000 plate

Expect to see it on a white S1 sometime soon, and the car punted back through Ebay.

Good point. Chris Evans bought a white S1 Esprit a year or so ago ...

He sold it pretty quickly for some reason, but it wasn't a particularly nice or original example anyway. Shows that even with all that buying power people will lead you down the wrong track just to get at your wallet.

PPW 305R is ONE digit away from Bond's licence plate number!

Basically Pete, Chris Evans reckoned he had always wanted a Bondmobile, which is not not unusual except he's a famous Ferrari nut, so buying a Lotus made a bit of news

He reckoned he had been searching for a year, with other people allegedly putting feelers out, which sounds extremely unlikey as a quick Google would have brought up a steady selection of cars in various locations, also sites like Pistonheads, Paul Matty, Scott Walker, and the Lotus Esprit Forum of old, which which would have been a goldmine of information and owners.

Like many out-of-touch rich people (e.g. Elon Musk who spent £1 million on the Bond Esprit thinking it converted to go underwater....) someone somewhere leads him to the doorstep of a Kent based specialist, which has had "mixed" reviews in the past. The car on offer was a relatively expensive S1 with what appeared to be a perfunctory makeover up to non-original spec (the interior especially let it down) and an engine which looked like it had spent a few months down with the Titanic, i.e. totally at odds with the fresh exterior and not what you would expect from a quality restoration.

For the price he paid he was perhaps £5000 away from the utter nut and bolt perfection achieved by a couple of other well-heeled enthusiasts who have moved their cars on recently.....
