I own a white 74' Lotus Elite. In lovely condition. Was owned by my father but kept in his garage for many years. I've got a personal connection with 1974 as that was the year of my birth. I'll try and pop some photo's on when I can work out how to do it.

Looks like I can only add images from the web without downloading a separate program so i've found an image of a 1974 Elite that looks pretty much identical to mine on the outside.

I don't really drive around my father's old Excel, only on very rare occasions for nostalgia. I wanted to preserve it in his memory so everything is as was. As he hardly used the car, it's got next to no mileage and is in pristine condition inside and out. I've actually been looking at something different for my weekend cruising. I just drive around an old Nissan at the moment for knocking-around in as I only really need a car for work and grocery runs, that kind of thing. I've been looking at a Harley Davidson from the same year, 1974, on a second-hand used for sale site for a decent price so am just considering whether or not to go for it. I'm a big classic motor enthusiast be it bikes or cars and I'm very interested in motors from the era I was born in. The Harley i've been looking at is a 74' XLCH 1000cc Ironhead Sportster. It's got a V2, four stroke engine and is capable of 115mph top speed. Got a real nice classic look about it. A very different beast to the Lotus. Mind you, the Lotus can apparently push 130mph which is pretty impressive for a car that's 40+ years old.

Welcome - great to have you here,

Re posting pictures, the following is taken from a much earlier post on the forum:

You can go to http://www.photobucket.com, register (takes moments), and then download pics of your PC onto their site.

Each of your pics on the site will then have three lines of text underneath them. The bottom one is called "IMG blah blah blah", depending on what name you gave it when you uploaded it.

If you copy and paste that "IMG.." line of text into a post on this site the text will disappear on the thread and magically be replaced by your picture from Photobucket.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Welcome.

Don't move the Lotus on for a Harley  The Elite is rare with a family link and there aren't many heirlooms you can say your father drove.

If you wanted to buy a proper cruising bike buy an Indian not the lesser copy

Welcome to the forum! Can we assume from your "time stamp" you're on the other side of the Atlantic? Great to own a car that has been in the family for so long.

Hi Ato and welcome. I wouldn't go much on the top speed of the Sportster as they aren't really a flat-out type of bike, more for enjoying lazy miles. Are you able to own both or would the Elite have to make way for the Harley?
