The Lotus Grand Tourers

Hi all- I have now successfully repaired my passenger door latch (Yayyy!)... I am now not sure I have reassembled the door properly (booo!). The door trim panel seems to be intended to hook over the inside of the door at the base of the window. The panel has window wipe-seal strips fitted along the folded over hook-on part which will be placed up against the window when the panel is installed. However these are pop rivetted on- which means that the heads of the rivets are inside the hook-over part and so presumably get in the way of a close "hook". The parts manual also shows some clips inside this hook-over part, - and my trim panel does indeed have clips but its not clear what they are supposed to do ... they don't look like they are designed to actually grip the inside door skin, rather they seem more like spacers to stop the doorskin jamming up against the pop rivets? I can get a reasonable fit between wipe seal and glass on the latch side but as it approaches the mirror, a large gap opens up- and you can get a finger between the glass and the wipe-seal at the hinge side- which obviously means its neither wiping nor sealing at this end! Both of my doors are like this and as I've not taken the other one apart I did want to check that this is really a fault before I strip it all off again! The parts manual does list a foam draft excluding strip to be used "as required" which makes me think that gaps weren't exactly unheard of! Also if anyone can clarify the function and position of the "clips" that would be great. I suspect the answer is to replace the wipe-seal strips and reposition the mirror trim triangles to let the panel hook over more easily, but before I get into that I'd like to know if its actually wrong or should be infilled with the foam strip!

Has anybody worked on this internal weatherstrip- removed-replaced or just fiddled? I'd appreciate any info on how the wetaherstrip/wipeseal is supposed to be fitted (clips and /or pop rivets) and how the door trim panel should fit over the door skin??

I'm fairly sure the window wiping strip was just glued to the door panel on my car ('90 SE). It had come unglued, so I glued it back on again, and it's now come unglued again, and I can't be bothered to take the panel off to fix it so it stays that way until I have a better excuse to take the panel off...

Confirmed, looking at the online parts list it says "C089V3574F Flange, Window Weatherstrip Stick-on W/Strip Inc. in Trimmed Door Panel" - so it does stick on (or not, as the case may be). But that's Post-'89. The parts list for '86-'89 and pre-'86 list both stick-on and clip-on weatherstrips, so I guess it's inconsistent from car to car.
