Lotusbits and lotusmarques both stock alloy ones. Plastic ones will eventually crack at top of thread

Ta,one on its way from lotus bits,I will see if it's an alloy one when it arrives, changed cam covers for refurbished ones( garage did) ,to find it was from years 86-88,mine is 1990,at least I can drive it once I get replacement cap, alloy ones look nice ,not sure if they fit all SE years

They don't. The diameter on the later "ratchet" cap is different.

Which end of the cam cover does your cap need to go on?

Threads also vary a little I think, my friend had to send the lotusmarques one back 'cause the thread radius (ie the "roundness" of the actual thread) was wrong. Steve sorted quickly, and has hopefully changed the spec. The lotusbits one fitted my excel 87 SE perfectly, and looks great.

As an aside, a Toyota Camry cap (circa 1992) will get you out of trouble for a while, while you are waiting for the correct cap to arrive. But not a perfect fit.
