Skipton Car show North Yorkshire Sunday 4th June 2017

Post by Lotus-e-Clan »

Anyone know anything about this/going or have attended in previous years?

Many who know me on here in real life (ie not many because I don't go out much :) ) know I don't do car shows on a Sunday because that day of the week is usually reserved for cycling 'int Dales.

Anyway, my cycling partner is on holiday (again!) so my son's girlfriend, who is a fundraiser for Alzheimer's Society, has asked me if I wanted to show my car to help them out a bit as they have have a presence there that weekend.

It just so happens my 89SE is happy to help out too (once I've given it a polish)!

It's a low-key show for pre-1990 cars from what she's told me. That's all I know

I think I'll be the only Excel (officially) on show this Sunday 4th June 2017. Got my pass etc last week.

If anyone wants to see an Excel with a proven (10+ years) Davies Craig EWP80 conversion plus mods to adapt to Evans waterless coolant, or would like to do a remote oil filter installation complete with pre and post oil pressure and temp sensors, then my bonnet will be open for all to see on Skipton High Street this Sunday. :)

If under-bonnet perving doesn't appeal to you and you'd rather 'just talk' car porn, then I can do that too ....

Setting off soon. First time I've polished it since year 2000 ..and it doesn't look too shabby EIISSM! It's an hour's trip for me ..plenty of opportunity for flies to spoil the finish....

Will try to take a few pics ...uniquely the venue is on the High Street and you don't get a choice of where to park ..highly organised ..hope I don't get a duff spot!

Forgot to get pics .too busy rattling Alzheimer's collection bins.... d'oh senior moment and all that! :?

...mind you, the car community seemed a bit tight ...spend a lot on their cars and have difficulty justifying the spend with 'senior management' so I guess it's not a big surprise the collection bins didn't develop a heavy rattle! Contrast that with our experience collecting in a small town like Masham at the 'Tour of Yorkshire' ....second only to Harrogate in terms of money collected ...may be cyclists are just more health conscious, and maybe car blokes just get on with enjoying life, and the 'moment'. without fretting over what might be?

btw There was a Yellow Eclat at the show ...didn't get to meet the owner....and that guy from the telly was there ...you know, the one who used to present a car show dressed as a vicar ...tall, lean, with glasses. He did the charity auction and really had to work hard! Parked his TR7 next to mine..and so I'm told...LOVED the Excel ..thought it was beautiful ....but again, I didn't get to talk to him... missed a potential telly spot maybe?

Ah well, the weather was good ... :D

Well I came onto the forum tonight to enter a "Spotted" post after an unplanned visit to Skipton today. On arrival I saw a nice yellow 1993 Esprit driving through the town and a nice bright yellow Éclat parked up in the High Street not too far from an abandoned yet apparently very well cared for red Excel SE...

I didn't realise the Excel belonged to you Peter. I was in the town for around 3 hours and kept passing by hoping to catch sight of the owner to see if they were an Excelnet member ! Are you sure you didn't park your Excel up first thing and then go on a bike ride for the rest of the day?

It was a good show and my other half was able to pop in and out of the shops as we perused the exhibits...

Eclat : Dave Webb
Dodgy TV bloke : Alex Reilly - who spent a lot of time poking around under Pete Boole's bonnet the first time the monster appeared at the NEC.

Sorry I missed you Kev it would have been good to meet and have a chat about stuff. :)

You may have seen me walking around carrying a collection bucket wearing a bright blue 'Alzheimer's Society' tabbard ..hiding behind a blue hat and sun glasses :( !

I really didn't get the best out of the show ... had to pander to the job-in-hand and a non-car-loving wife...

Yes it would have been good to have a chinwag Peter. It's nice to see that Alex Riley is also a proper car enthusiast with his TR7.

this chap...

I couldn't find images of him in the 'vicar' car show. From what I remember of the show it was an off-the-wall production that I bumped into when we had Sky (that's probably more than 10 years ago) with a load of rubbish channels that no one watched much ...hence not easy to reference.
