Squeaky rear suspension

Post by Tanz »

Had some odd noises from the rear for some time but just turned up the radio. So decided it was time to change the bushes as they were original from 1988.
Removing the shock and spring revealed the cause of the noise as the spring was rubbing against the upper link mounting.

There is a similar groove in the spring so I have got a pair of new springs.
The other problem i have found it that the upper link - where it connects to the hub - is completely seized solid. That is the steel tube in the bush is seized onto the bolt.

Going to remove the hub and get some heat on it.

Not sure if the spring rubbing is down to incorrect orientation of the spring or the siezed upper link.
Cheers, Phil

Solid just like my AVO bushes were.

In the 'bible' its shows that the spring needs to be in its correct orientation or it will rub like that. Looks like a P O didnt know that.

Post MY89, the top link is different (A006 on 31.03A). Parts list doesn't call up a different top Y yoke, but I believe design was tweeked to give more clearance to spring.
