Calypso Pink...

Post by barker_001 »

After a weekend of T-Cut, Autoglym polish, and elbow grease, my Excel is now red rather than pink. :D

The car has been resprayed at some time in the past, with a single layer of red paint instead of the original paint plus lacquer. It's a good paint job, but the paint seems to oxidise quite quickly, with a white bloom forming on the bonnet and roof. Much as it improves the car's appearance, I'm reluctant to use T-Cut too often because some paint is being removed each time.

What regime and products do people use to keep their red Excels red? Something to seal the paintwork's surface might be good?

Edit: just noticed - 100 posts - now I'm a "regular"!

nice :)

my car seems to have been re-sprayed without anything being removed, so inside door hinges are original paint, with drips from the re-spray down them, and all sorts of drips on the paint in other places as well as the doors having patches where the re-spray was so badly done its just down to primer...

:( going to have to get the old girl re-sprayed one i do the honda engine swap :)

I should i am now regularly washing her with Autoglym products (bodywork shampoo first, using the 2 bucket technique), then wipe off with chamois cloth, then paintwork renovator, then super resin polish, then detailing plastics and black bits(Bumper care gel, its amazing), then fast glass, and clean wheels, then 2nd layer of super resin polish... comes up a treat...
Also have all the autoglym bird poo wipes, tar remover, metal polish (exhausts and engine block), interior shampoo, leather cleaner, leather care, (do them in that order), aqua wax for when i cant be arsed to super-resin polish it, and all sorts of other bits...

Wow! Ozzy, have you got shares in Autoglym?

I've got a few of their products and have also found them to be very good. I hadn't heard of their paintwork renovator though, is it the same kind of thing as T-Cut?

I'll give the second layer of polish a go, that should help protect the paint for a bit longer...

Also, once polished give it a good coat of wax, the two layers should help to keep the paint sealed from the elements and reduce the oxidation that is the fading.

The 3 best products, Paint work renovator, tar remover, and their super resin polish.

Also the Fast Glass, and Clean wheels are great as a spray, rub off, and done.

Finally for detailing the bumper care is great for black bits, and engine detailing.

T-Cut Colourfast red wax. The Calypso red on mine was faded when I bought it but otherwise the finish was fairly good. At some point I'll remove the decals and have it re-sprayed. Until then, the coloured wax has helped to deepen the shade and resist oxidation/bleaching by sunlight.

Well I've gone for the two coats of Super Resin polish, the paintwork has come up really well. I also picked up some Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection, which is supposed to seal the polished paintwork against the elements.

All I need now is a dry day to apply it!
