TYRES
RJ, <BR><BR>I need 4 new tyres and like you found these options on mytyres.co.uk. I am also thinking of choosing the Dunlops, having already had Pirelli P7000s and Bridgestone SO1s. It may be early days but what's your impression of the Dunlops ? <BR><BR>Anybody else had any experiences of them, good or bad ? <BR><BR>Geoff

Just to resurrect an old thread - Just checked National Tyres & Kwik Fit for 215/50/ZR15s. Both listed the tyres as available, but only National could generate a quote. (Kwik Fit timed out - with an error that looked very micro$oft)
National offered a choice of 3, Goodyear, Dunlop & Bridgestone.
Kwik Fit only offered Goodyears.

1 pair SP9000s just fitted on the rear axle. Will report in when I've done a few serious miles on them - managed to spin the rears on the way out of the fitting centre though
- I have a feeling they've over-inflated them.
Had a chat with the manager - he reckons that the SP9000s were recent manufacture and therefore probably still in production - Dunlop certainly had no trouble arranging a pair for next day delivery.
ALL of the online places I've tried (including those suggested above) have told me that they cannot get 215/50/ZR15s - in spite of me suggesting they try Dunlop, Goodyear and Bridgestone, barring one who suggested Toyo Proxes in the right size and rating. For me, Toyos are a bit too much of a track tyre.

SP9000 is a current mould replaced the SP8000 about 2 years ago.

I e-mailed www.tretraders.com last night and they phoned back within 30 mins. SP9000's are latest tech as Spav rightly says which dunlop have made in this size to serve the Audi Quattro market. They make 400 a year for yhe UK which are shipped in two batches of 200, which would explain why availability can be sporadic. Tyretraders currently have 12 in stock for delivery on tuesday if you order today. He said the Toyos were available at short notice but not in stock. They are very sticky but wont last long if you really mean it !! Probably suitable to drive to the track day thrash it and drive home. Hope this helps.

That explains it I have a Quattro as well, tyres are not the easest of things to come by. I need 8 SP9000's then !!! I will use the odd SP8000 that i have on the quat as a spare for the lotus.

I can now report that the SP9000s work well on the rear of my SE. I checked the pressures before going out yesterday and the fitters had put them at 30psi. I reduced to 24psi (recommended in the handbook for the original Goodyear Eagles) and there was a noticeable improvement.
We had a hard frost lying for over 24 hours here, and I couldn't get the SP9000s to spin from rest at all (and I *was* trying). In cornering, they felt stable with no feeling of slip as far as I could make out. The tread pattern looks like it should have pretty good lateral stability in water/ice/snow too.

I had a pair of SP8000's in the past, nice and grippy, but 8000 motorway miles on the back and they were illegal! At the time my car had a little too much rear toe in (max setting, not mid!), but the tyres were either very soft or less tolerant of the toe in. I have tried the kumho's but in 225 size wear well grip in dry is good - in the wet with serious driving "ice rink"
