Re: How much oil do i need
there is loads of debate on this forum re the "correct" oil to use ...i use Valvoline as it ios cheap and the guy who built my engine recomemnds it and usues it in his race engines(1 of which i now use).i dont do more than 3k a year and change every year.....cost me £20 + filter per yearscrappyloz wrote:I didnt want to use mineral oil as i see it only for running a new engine in thats why i didnt go for the valvoline. Re: How much oil do i need
I did an oil change this afternoon. The air filter box on my car bolts directly against the carbs without any sealing rings. Does anyone know if this is correct or is my car mssing some seals ?

Mine is also sandwiched between carbs and trumpets, no seals.

Re: How much oil do i need
i was on valvoline from lotusbits after an engine out job, however when i came to change oil/filter i tried castrol edge sport 10-60 from local accessory shop, prob with castrol is you only get 4ltrs in a big can so i had to buy 2 @ £40 each, so im now changing oil/ filter again and have bout 2 litres left over of castrol but cant get it anymore locally so i come away with Millers CFS 10-60 @46£ for a 5 litre can.
guy in shop said its very good, ive no idea personally so fingers crossed hes right

Re: How much oil do i need
You just missed a good deal from Opie Oils 5 litres of castrol edge (10/60 or any other grade) plus a boot pouch/funnel and nitrile gloves for about £35. I bought two lots one for clan one for Lotus.
No problems with engine noise either.
Totally agree scrappyloz. I've been running in my new £6K Imp race engine with Halfords Classic 20/50 before switching to Castrol edge 10/60. I've been using it for donkeys years in the Excel ...main benefit being much less oil consumption than the Mobil 1 15/50 I used to use which makes it a very cost effective oil.scrappyloz wrote:I didnt want to use mineral oil as i see it only for running a new engine in thats why i didnt go for the valvoline. Re: How much oil do i need
Thats a good deal indeed, however i do think oil consumption was higher on the castrol vrs the valvoline, only reason i didnt get valvo again was because it was a spur of the moment decision to change oil and wanted something today. i ll be keen to see how this millers is though. Any one else had any experaince with millers ?
