Dashboard Badge

I have this plaque on my dashboard just to the right of the ignition key. Does anybody know if it has any significance? I haven't seen it on other cars.

Haven't seen it anywhere else and it's not listed in the parts book.

Looks like someone just stuck it on for the crack..I can't see the point of it anyway :? ...but more interestingly....what's the black knob for?

Is the plaque to cover up the two previous attempts by somebody to fit afore said black knob?

After switching from using the excel to using my corsa (with worn out shocks at the time) I very nearly stuck "THIS IS NOT A LOTUS" on the steering wheel after I tried to take a few corners down the watton road at 60mph forgetting which car i was in....perhaps this is a similar trick?

The plaque seems to be original with two securing holes in the panel and no others! The black knob is the retaining screw for the panel with a matching one on the other side of the steering column. I quite like it! I need to give the whole panel a clean at some point I'll take it off and see if it bears any part number on the underside!

My SE is the same year as yours (1990), and doesn't have the plaque. Also it doesn't have sticky-out knobs to hold on the trim panel under the steering column, the retainers have a ridged flat top to turn with a thumb (plus a shallow groove for a screwdriver too).

Thanks for the posts so far folks! I'm just wondering if the badge was an adornment perculier to cars painted Champagne Gold. Do we have any other members with Gold cars?

Could it have been installed by the dealer?

I remember them making up their own badges to stick on bodywork during the eighties / nineties.

Champagne Gold owner here, but it's an '86. Not noticed such a badge on mine.
