On my 89 SE I have found that the wing mirror on the drivers side has become loose. I have moved the outside rubber boot cover and checked that the Allen screw is tight, but that is not the problem. Could there be a problem with the mounting of the mirror inside the door itself.
Thanks.

Re: Drivers Door Wing Mirror
There is a 'special nut'/lockring inside the mirror plinth that goes onto the door. This holds on the aluminium piece that the grub screw secures into. This lockring might have come loose?
The plinth is held on with 2 M6 bolts, accessed from within the door shell.
The other thing might be a broken 'door mirror toad stool'. This technical article link shows that and pictures of the plinth - http://www.lotusexcel.net/phpbb/viewtop ... lit=mirror
Gavin.

Re: Drivers Door Wing Mirror
Thanks Gavin. It was the locking ring on the inside of the plinth, but what a job to get at the bolts inside the door. The quarter light window is in the way and also the metal frame. I could have done with a ratchet ring spanner. Perhaps father Chrsitmas may bring me a set. I dismantled the entire mirror and found that all the wires had been severed. I reconnected them all and expected the controls to work. Yeh right. No voltage at all. Checked the switches and found that some idiot had removed the entire inside parts of the switches. So now looking for the two mirror switches. Wish I was over in the U.K. for a while to ferret around the dealers for bits and pieces.
