seat reclining mechanism

Hi Folks,

my passenger seat reclining mechanism is failing me and collapses when the passenger leans back. So the seat needs pushing back to the rear seats. It looks like one of the rotating pivoting plate thingy is buckled.
I also not an old MOT failure from my car has been from this point.

Has anyone had or heard of any similar trouble and managed to dismantle and refurbish? - or do we think I need to obtain a part from one of the sad excel's occasionally braking on ebay?

Any response welcome before I start on what I assume would be a rather tricky time consuming fix..

Mike Taylor at Lotusbits usually has some seats with rotten upholstery but good mechanicals.
