Belts, Plugs, Filters, Fuels, Oils, additives etc..... Told you this might morph into servicing and service items.

Rear Brake Pads Advice Please

Post by MalcolmH »

Hi all,

My 1990 Excel SE needs rear brake pads. The mechanic who kindly sorts such 'everyday' work for me (unless anything specialist needed) can't get them through his motor factors.

There seem to be loads on eBay, all supposedly suitable for the Excel. Any recommendations please?

Many thanks,

Malcolm

He probably can get them but the supplier probably doesn't list them, only showing them for the Toyota donor Supra MA61 post 1982.

Given how brake technology has moved on in the last few decades, and so everyday cars have more effective brakes than our older sports cars, I'd say go with better quality pads rather than cheaper ones. Lotusbits recommend Mintex compound 144, but I doubt many motorfactors carry that specific compound perhaps they will caryy/ beable to obtain some other premium pad, beware on eBay some may be fakes, so one possible source:

Many thanks for the advice, Andy. As the car only currently gets occasional use, I've erred on the side of budget and gone for the standard Excel rear pads that SJ Sportcars offer, £38.22 incl VAT & delivery. They should arrive Monday.
