Hi all,
Am I right in thinking that pretty much every time you remove the front hub you will need to fit a new oil seal? This is because the stub axle inner race often sticks to the stub and the only thing knocking it off is the oil seal. Whether the seal pops out of the back of the hub or the pushes the bearing Im guessing both will upset the sealing capacity if reused... or is there another way??
Also is the original Lotus seal a single or double lip? I assume this will affect the turning preload to be set?
Cheers
Mike

Re: Front hub oilseal
Hello Mike - I replaced my oil seals when I did the bearings and front suspension. The seals were from SJ - I presume original spec. Prior to that I had removed the hubs 2 or 3 times and had noticed that it was the seal that was pulling the bearing off the stub axle. I checked the seal and there was no visible damage and so I just used the same seal - there was always loads of grease inside and I couldn't see any escaping. I guess it is probably best practice to replace them each time though.
