Recommended glue for A pillar trim and wasteline trim

Post by sharrar »

Hello All,

I've a couple of glueing jobs lined up and wanted your advice. The first job is the interior trim on the A pillar - it's coming away on both sides. Wondered what folks here have used successfully to glue that back? On the worst side around 12 inches is coming away from the pillar.

Also noticed the wasteline trim needs re-sticking on the front driver wheel arch. Standard adhesive sealant? Any recommendations?

Thanks

High temp contact adhesive.

Not evo stick as this is only good to 30 deg C.

Also make sure that the foam beneath the A-post trim is secure.

Hi there, use an acetoxy sealant for the waistline such as PU65. Bead size is critical as you need to lay one down along the inside of the trim such that it fills the void completely once pressed home but doesn't squidge out everywhere.
When you have eliminated the impossible whatever remains, no matter how impropable, must be hit with a hammer

For the waisline trim I recommend you refer to the SJSportscars web and click on the I (Information) related to waistline trim in the Body section. This is a full description of the (long) process to do it correctly.

I fitted new waistline trim to my car last year following respray. Used the adhesive listed by SJS and it worked fine. It is though, as you say a LONG process to do it correctly and you will need a heat gun and a great deal of sticky tape!

Thanks for the links to adhesive and the SJsports steps for the waistline - useful read up

I looked again at the A pillar trim and the one side I think will be fine - it can be pushed neatly back into place. The passenger side though I cannot push the trim back into place - it is like it has shrunk. The white foam just won't budge. Anyone any ideas on that / any tools that can help, or I am looking at trimmers / specialist help?

Cheers
