Non-indicating indicator!

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Non-indicating indicator!

Post by Doc Si »

Hi Guys. I have an 86 Excel. The front near side indicator & side repeater are not functioning. All others are one including dashboard repeater. As well as that the nearside hazard light don't function unless indicating left swell.
Anyone got any idea about where the gremlins may have chewed the wiring before I go searching.
Thanks

I take it the nearside rear indicator is still performing correctly then? In which case the problem can't be with the fuses or relays, must be downstream from there. Obvious suspect is always the bulb, although in my experience it's as often a problem with corrosion / poor contact in the bulb holder as it is with the bulb itself. The side repeater can be a PITA for bulb checking, as the lens is held on by a single screw that is probably rusted into something that no longer resembles a screw.

Id say corrosion in the repeater light unit.

I’ll add my name to corrosion in bulb holder, or bad earth.
I also had an issue when I bought my rescue car with front indicators not working when side lights on - 21w sidelights fitted to side lights.

Thanks guys. Blown bulb in repeater + some corrosion in the front indicator bulb holder, but funnily enough swapping left to right bulbs fixed it !

Now here's a muddle.
Hazard switch turns on right side indicators only, to get left to flash I have to indicate left as well! Then they all flash. Any thought out there as to where the problem may be & how to fix it.

Earths. Probably on left side.

Run a temporary earth back to a good point from each light and see if anything changes.
