While removing my distributor I have found it to be oily on the inside.
Even the cap was greasy on the inside.
There is even a puddle of oil on the engineblock under the dissy.
Is there only one O-ring that can be replaced on the distributor shaft?

Yep only 1 "0"ring, i just had this as an issue with mine and it appears that it was the Dizzy clamp that had failed where it attached to the engine and that allowed the dizzy to move and allow oil out..........Hope that helps

Re: Oil in my distributor
Thanks MrcoolA.
Can I put a regular o-ring on the dizzy or is it a special shape.
The old one was hard and flat.

Re: Oil in my distributor
As soon as it can bear oil you can put anything with the right size.

Re: Oil in my distributor
If you can get one in Belgium, I would be tempted to go with the genuine Lotus part, A907E6251F, which is still available.
I replaced this o-ring as part of the investigation into a problem with oil pressure:
http://www.lotusexcel.net/phpbb/viewtop ... f=7&t=2019
Initially I bought an o-ring from SJ Sportscars which was one of their own replacement parts. However it looked a lot thinner than the one on the distributor, so then I bought the genuine part from a Lotus dealer (in fact they gave it me because it wasn't worth them raising an invoice!
). It is a standard circular cross section o-ring, but the cross section is thicker than the SJ part. This will make a better oil-tight seal when fitted.
