I am potentially the youngest current Excel owner (can anyone confirm that?). My car is 6 years older than me. (you can do the math)
My notable past vehicles have included an MR2, a Jag S Type R and a Suzuki GSX650F.
In July it was time for a car change.
I managed to make a shortlist of replacements for my then MR2 which consisted of (in order of preference, least to most desirable) Mr2 Turbo, TVR S2 or S3, Excel and finally a TVR 400SE.
I went and viewed the only 400SE that felt within budget. But ultimately didnt go for it. And in hine sight it was resoundingly the right move to make. It would have been a money pit.
Back to the drawing board. I looked at some "mere" TVR 350i's but they ultimately didnt have the appeal of the 400SE.
I thought id try an Excel, what did i have to lose?
I set of down to Devon and fell in love.
Its not been about 2 months since i first viewed the car and it seems i have a great example.
A few cheap fixes.
The power steering packed up (the tensioner simply needed re tensioning)
The oil pressure gauge got stuck on max at the weekend (lead fell off)
Was losing coolant quite quickly (was overfilling it and had the caps on the wrong way)
I also got some nice new free bees under warrenty last week.
New brake servo
New drivers door beam
New passenger side door latch
Anyway, what a well kept secret. Comfortable, fastish, sounds great and so far reliable, what more can one want from a car? Maybe to not get outside in the morning and find the door cards covered in rain. But im just being fussy.
